1806 08 26 : Allowance for javelin man at Carlisle assizes
26 Aug 1806. ALLOWANCE FOR JAVELIN MAN AT CARLISLE ASSIZES. A neat and clean receipt. 2” x 6”. When the Assizes were held there would be a procession through the town with the judge in his robes escorted by the Sheriff’s Javelin Men who were local constables in their best uniforms. R.
