10 Feb 1792. LETTER OF APOLOGY AND ABOUT A ROAD COURT CASE. Bundle 60, Doc 17. 32 cm x 20 cm, folded in half to make four pages. Red wax seal and a hole where it was torn open destroying some of the writing. Mr. HARRISON 10 Feby. 1792 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Sir I hope you are so fully convinced of my regard for you, as not to entertain an Idea, that I will not come near you. Yet as two days were fixed for my coming to Edenhall, it is necessary to assign a reason for my nonappearance, which may be called an allowable one, when I tell you my little Robert is very unwell & my Wife too much dispirited to be left alone. I hope his complaint will not be dangerous, yet my remonstrances & hopes will not remove a mothers fears. Every preparation was made for my being with you in good time this morning. I was at Bleatarn yesterday, for the sake of overlooking Lan~. STEEL & the Wallers to giving you an account of their proceedings in order to expedite our inspections next ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Friday. The necessary informations have been given & sent by careful people to all parties concern’d on that day. The Doctor has been here and hopes our little fellow will get the better of his disorder, which is the Thrush. I hope by this time Mrs OLDMAN is perfectly recovered. The Justices Indicted the Road from Piper Cross to Ugly Brow after they had adjourned from the County Hall to the Kings head Parlour Dark designs are fittest to be done in a corner. I was not fully convinced of this till Saty. or you should have heard from me. No Proc’ss has been issued out of [the] sheriffs Office on ye. I hope we shall stand the test of all their hellish machinations, for I think their scheme is founded in malice & deserves no better appellation. When I looked yesterday at the Road & at the lines insisted on for one I gazed with the utmost astonishment, & turned away in full hopes of the Township of Bn. not being oppressed with an unnecessary Road.
