1790 01 08 : Letter with news from Hartley
08 Jan 1790. LETTER WITH NEWS FROM HARTLEY. Bundle 61, Doc 5. 32 cm x 20.5 cm, folded in half to make four pages. Page 3 blank. Remains of a red seal with a tear where it was broken open. The scribbled calculation on the front appears to bear no relationship to the contents of the letter. John DAWSON 8th. Your’s & have Inclosd. all ye Bills I know of, Thos. FOTHERGILL ye Slater Charged you with Slatepins Ino. RAILTON made them & he will pay him for them, my Charge you must settle I led 24 days with 4 Horses & Carts Wood Stone lime & Sand 100 Bushels lime for ye Hemmel & Cart House at 4d pr. Bushel Stones geting you may pay what you please they cost more than theay ought to have done but I wanted ye place to set a lime Kiln in –––––––––– I have had two Letters from Stockton I can but have 16£ - 10s theire then that [?] will but make 15£ - 0s here as it will cost 1£ - 10s Carrage pr. Fodder ––––––– ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ we have been much watered & can not get down for water in ye low Sump Tis going forward with ye Leavel at ye Bottom of ye Hill two Men driess fathom every fortnight, but Lead setling & I have got none to Market yet from Riggs –––– I give you ye Compliments of ye Season & maney Return’s –––––––––– & wish you much happiness in ye Married State which I hope you will find I am Dr. Sir with ye greatest Respect Yours &c [signed] Ino.
