1790 : London lawyer's letter about Bleatarn enclosure

1790. LONDON LAWYER’S LETTER ABOUT BLEATARN ENCLOSURE. Bundle 61, Doc 48. 27.5 cm x 24.5 cm but most of one half torn off – originally probably measured 39.5 cm x 24.5 cm and was folded in half to make four pages. Red seal and what looks like part of an illegible stamp. No date, but the Bleatarn Enclosure Bill received royal assent on 07 May 1790. Mr. HEELIS’s letter about the inclosure of Bleatarn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sir / I have this Moment Received your Favour with one inclosed from Sir P MUSGRAVE who seems entirely to have misunderstood the Clauses in the Bleatarn Inclosure Bill sent him by Mr. OLDMAN he seems to think that the Old Rents of the Manor will be changed from Customary into Free Rents and that the old Inclosed Lands which are now Customary will be made Freeholds &c. – which is not the Case the meaning of the Bill being as follows Viz: That the Old Inclosed Lands Rents &c. shall stand and Remain Exactly as they are at present. The Allotments of the Common to be Freehold and each to chargeable with the payment of the yearly Free Rent of 6 per Acre to the Lord Sir P MUSGRAVE in Respect of his being Lord of the Soil – with a Clause that the Royalties Franchises and Privileges of the Lord shall continue the same as before the passing of the Act. The Act is now with Mr. Edwd. BARWELL in Abingdon Street and I expect a few Copies will be printed by tomorrow when I will do myself the pleasure of Waiting upon you in Somerset Street with the same It was my intention to have waited upon Sir Philips Sollicitor with the same as soon as printed and then to have ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ gone down to Kempton Park.
