1790 05 23 : Letter from Appleby Castle
23 Mar 1790. LETTER FROM APPLEBY CASTLE. Pre stamp cover datelined Appleby Castle, with a weak APPLEBY mileage on back. A bit grubby with the ubiquitous file fold and seal tear, but otherwise a fine letter. [Faint straight stamp on back] APPLEBY [with some illegible numbers underneath] Miss MACHELL 23d. Dear Sir I Received yours & shoud. be very glad to accompany you & your party at the time you mention provided I coud. have a seat in the Coach without any inconvenience but Mr BRISCOs answer to the inclosed must determine my proceedings therefore I shall wait for it with impatience & let you know immediately – Will you be so good as pay Mr BUCHANNAN £ 6 “ 10s which he was so obliging as to pay for my Brother in Edinburgh I shall also esteem it a favour if you will pay to Miss HODGSON the milliner £ 4 “ 15s “ 9d for me & take her receipt.
