Black seal and corresponding hole where it was torn open. Mr. GRAVE 2nd. June 1796. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Copy Letter from Mr SAUNDER [?] to Mr. GRAVE Dear Sir Sir John MUSGRAVE is come [?] here and shews me a Letter from Mr. OLDMAN wherein he says “Mr. GRAVE says it will be proper to admitt any of the Arbitrary Tenants that may come to the Courts to be held next Month either upon Alienation or Descent and to Assess them an Arbitrary fine altho they may refuse to pay the General fine as now Assessed” ––– We doubt the propriety of that and think they should not be admitted without payment of the General fine as well as the Accruing fine – I see many reasons for the refusal, and none against it but if you will urge yours, Sir John wishes them to be well Considered & if necessary to have Mr. CHAMLIE’s Opinion upon that point –––– ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Dear Sir I apprehend you may have fixed your Courts and therefore loose no time in Giving you this Information –– I shall be at home all day tomorrow if you wish to see me –– I think I am right in my first Opinion ––– These are not Copyhold Tenants ––– I shall recommend them to ask Mr. CHAMLIE and shall write tomorrow night Stating my reasons. –––– Yours truly [signed] Ed GRAVE I think it may be proper to Send up an Accot. of 2d. June 96 the fines [?] in Anden [?] Assessed by Sir Philip ––
