Apr 1792. LETTER ABOUT BIRCH SOLD AT BARON WOOD. Bundle 60, Doc 10. 32 cm x 21.5 cm, folded in half to make four pages. Last page blank. Remains of a black seal with large tear next to it. Some bookworm holes. John DIXON Birch Sold at Bn. Wood April 1792. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sir Last Friday Ino. CARRICK of Alston came here, We went to Baronwood, & I sold him the Birch in the Hag for £ 4 which he thot. was sufficient for him at this time ––– Next Morning Ino. WATSON of Parkhead came & I went with him & sold him the following Lots near Fox hole hills No. of pieces Old Value Sold for £ s 18 0 ~ 11 £ 0 ~ 12 40 0 ~ 18 0 ~ 19 33 0 ~ 11 0 ~ 12 14 0 ~ 4 ~ 6 0 ~ 5 12 0 ~ 7 ~ 6 0 ~ 9 16 0 ~ 8 ~ 6 0 ~ 10 ~ 6 —————- ——————- £ 3 ~ 0 ~ 6 £ 3 ~ 7 ~ 6 ————————————————————————————————————— They both pay at Christmas next, I think I could have sold J. CARRICK his lot for a little more, but I imagin’d. He would have taken the whole at first, consequently let him see the Value ––– there yet remains Eight Lots which I could wish sold for £ 4 ~ 4 or a little less, for reasons I shall give you when we meet –– sh’d. any person ask you the Value of what is left, let them know by lump, & not separately –– I shall not be at Penrith tomorrow, perhaps KIRKBRIDE may buy them, I did not see him last week ––––– ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thos. RAILTON is wanting some spile wood. pray cannot they be had in Baron wood, I suppose Birch may do as well as Oak ––––– must J. [or I.?] HODGSON lead their Allotment of Lime home for the new building, or will you want it at Edenhall ––– please will it suit you to attend the Court on our great Fair day the 24th. Inst.
