14 Nov 1791. LETTER REQUESTING A SPECIAL COURT AT STAFFIELD. Bundle 60, Doc 4. 34 cm x 22 cm, folded in half to make four pages, one of them left blank. Remains of a red wax seal. Large “2” written above address. Mr. ATKINSON Atty. 14. Novr. 1791 – ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall near Penrith ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sir Mr. Joseph MORESBY of Carlisle desired me to write to you to request you will be so obliging as hold a special Court at Kirkoswald for the Manor of Staffield on Thursday the first Day of December in the forenoon but if that Day shd. not be convenient for you, you’l please to name some other Day about that time. I am informed by Mr. MORESBY that the Business intended to be done is to have his Son Mr. John MORESBY admitted Tenant to a Mess~e & Tenement at Westgarthill as Heir at Law to his Brother Christopher late decd. Subject to some eight in all or a part of sd. prem~es to the Father for Life and that John intends to convey sd. prem~es to his Brother Wm. & he at the same time to be admitted Tenant. I will take care to have the Conveyance prepared and you’l be so obliging ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ as favor me with a Line as soon as possible what Day will be convenient for you to hold a Court.
