March 1790 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sir Yesterday we had a sale of wood belonging Miss AGLIONBY & this morning I was present when the purchasers of said wood sold the Bark to Mr. Rd. SPOONER of T. Sowerby & T. RELPH of Lazonby at the enormous price of £1 ~ 14 ~ 6, which cannot be reckond. at less than £1 ~ 7 upon the tree – I therefore think it my duty to give you immediate information least Mr. SPOONER or perhaps some other person may call upon you & buy it within its worth – to try them – after they bought it, I askd. what they would give upon the tree for Sir Philipp’s which was good bark & that which they had bought was very thin (says I you shall have it for 30s upon the tree) Mr. SPOONER Answerd. would I let them alone & they would try Mr. OLDMAN themselves ––––––– I am Sir yr.
